EQUIPMENT FUNDS
Act 562 of the 1996 Louisiana Legislative Session established the “POST Training and Assistance Fund.” Under provisions of this Act, every person convicted of a felony, misdemeanor, or violation of an ordinance of local government is assessed an additional two dollars as special costs. The proceeds of those special costs are paid to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and are used to train local law enforcement officers in addition to providing “assistance” to local law enforcement agencies. The Act 562 of 1986 provides funding for electronic equipment to local law enforcement agencies that pay into the Act 562 fund. The programs funded through the Red River Delta District are eligible for up to 100% of allowable costs. These funds are awarded on an annual basis.
